Sevan Karian, 2012, France

Lawyer at the Paris bar & President of AYO - Paris, France

Why I chose Fletcher: As a lawyer involved in international projects relating to natural resources in developing countries, I quickly understood that my legal knowledge would be worth nothing without a broad understanding of international affairs. I soon realized that Fletcher is the best place to learn about all of these issues at the same time! The curriculum offers a multi-disciplinary approach on global issues, with classes in International Law, Geopolitics, Economics and International Relations that students can link together. Also, the Fletcher community is known to be a particularly smart, warm and strongly connected network all over the world. From my first contact with this community, I realized that it was genuinely true.

What was your favorite class at Fletcher and why? My favorite class at Fletcher was 'International NGOs: Ethics & Management' taught by Pr. John Hammock, because you learn concrete technical methods of management but also lots of personal tools to realize who you are and what you want to do. You do this with people from totally different professional background and origins, who are ready to open themselves to their classmates.
