On the diversity of the Fletcher community:  One of Fletcher’s greatest assets is its diversity. The diversity here means interacting with people from other countries and of completely different backgrounds with which I've never had the opportunity to interact in a meaningful way. While I've lived in other countries and understand diversity, I've largely interacted with people that have similar backgrounds to my own. Recently I was speaking to a classmate who was telling me about her experience living and working in the private sector in Iraq. I found our conversation fascinating mainly because the world she came from was largely unknown to me outside of what I read in the newspapers. It brought these current events much closer to home for me. This is a common experience here at Fletcher, and these varying perspectives are brought to the classroom and beyond. This diversity leads to a lot of collaboration because of our wide variety of strengths and perspectives. The diversity of my Fletcher classmates is critical to my learning both in and out of the classroom.

On the Fletcher Alumni network: The "Fletcher Mafia" has already come through for me in my very short time at Fletcher. I have been very interested in understanding how impact investors measure social performance of their investments for a project I am working on with two other first year students. After explaining our project to a couple of professors, they recommended alumni in the field to speak to, who we promptly reached out to. The two alumni we connected with were more than willing to speak with us despite their busy schedules and showed genuine interest in and excitement about our project. They quickly connected us with other alumni who showed equal enthusiasm about our work. I was really impressed by the genuine interest and quick response time from the alumni.
