Ron D'Vari, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at NewOak Capital Advisors, has over 29 years of experience in asset management, advisory, academics and management. D'Vari is responsible for the overall direction of the firm and has day-to-day oversight of the advisory business. He has championed OpenRisk and Stratus as an integrated platform for underwriting, valuation, surveillance, portfolio and risk management, and collateral management of hard-to-value assets and derivatives as well as traditional securities. D'Vari has led or played key roles in devising and implementing strategies dealing with some of the largest and well publicized de-risking and restructuring advisory cases in US, Europe and Canada.
NewOak Capital Advisors was created in 2008 in response to the credit crisis with the mission of providing independent advisory, solutions, asset management and customer-focused capital markets services to a broad range of investors and institutions globally. NewOak specializes in advising, evaluating, re-underwriting, stress testing, restructuring, hedging and asset recovery for a wide variety of hard-to-value and complex asset types involving transparency, ongoing management or optimal de-risking, and dispute resolution. NewOak has advised financial institutions, regulatory agencies, and government entities in regard to over $2 trillion in assets such as distressed residential and commercial mortgage loans, mortgage servicing rights, corporate credit, public finance, private debt, and the universe of structured products and related derivatives in whole loan, securities and operating entity forms. D'Vari has led or played key roles in devising and implementing strategies dealing with some of the largest and well publicized de-risking and restructuring advisory cases.
Prior to NewOak at BlackRock, D'Vari was the head of structured finance portfolio management and member of Investment Strategy Group, Fixed Income, Alternatives, and New Products Management Committees. He co-managed over $60 billion in fixed-income assets, of which he managed $16 billion directly and headed all high profile structured portfolio advisory efforts. At State Street Research (acquired by BlackRock in 2004), D'Vari headed the structured products portfolio management team and was Director of Fixed Income Research and a member of Bond Policy Committee overseeing the US$27 billion fixed-income business. Ron has taught at UCLA, USC, Brandeis, Boston University and served on the board of the Boston Security Analyst Society and United Planet. D'Vari holds B.S., MS, MBA, and PhD degrees from University of California Los Angeles, CFA charter and Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
