Health Insurance

  • All students must have adequate health insurance, as determined by the Tufts University Health Service Office, in order to enroll at The Fletcher School. A health insurance fee is automatically charged to all enrolled students. Students who have comparable U.S. insurance may have this fee waived by the Director of the Health Service Office.
    • If you choose not to enroll in the health insurance program, you must waive the insurance at: https://www.aetnastudenthealth.com/stu_conn/student_connection.aspx?groupID=812830&PageID=ew. The deadline to waive the insurance is January 28, 2013. If you have questions about the insurance plan, contact the Health Service Office at  617-627-3592.  Please be aware that foreign insurance coverage, as well as some U.S. insurance plans are often not considered comparable coverage.
  • Submit by December 21, 2012 the Tufts University Health Service Office Required New Student Health Packet
    • The Tufts University Health Service Office REQUIRES all graduate students to complete by Friday, December 21, 2012 the New Student Health Packet (includes an online form section), which is to be endorsed by you and your health care provider. Also, the Tufts Health Service Office’s website is: http://ase.tufts.edu/healthservice/, and to review the state of Massachusetts Health Insurance Requirements, please visit this page on the Health Service Office's website: http://ase.tufts.edu/healthservice/business.htm.
    • Your partnership in completing the Required New Student Health Packet by December 21 ensures that the University is in compliance with Massachusetts State Law and also prevents a Health Hold from being placed on your account which will prevent course registration for the spring term.
Note: Do not submit your medical-related information to the Registrar's Office. Please mail all medical-related information directly to the Tufts Health Service Office mailing address:

  • Mandatory Comprehensive Health Service Fee
    • In addition to health insurance, all students must pay a student comprehensive health service fee of $690.00. For students who begin in January 2013, the fee is $345.00. This fee is not insurance coverage, but it allows the student to use the Tufts University Health Service Office's services for routine illnesses. This fee may not be waived.
    • Access to the Tufts University Health Service Office is not available to a spouse or children. The Tufts University comprehensive health service fee covers students for unlimited primary care and walk-in visits, allergy injections, an annual flu shot, the Counseling Center, and the first three psychiatric visits. There are sometimes other additional charges for which students are responsible (e.g., lab tests). These charges appear on the student's Bursar bill. In all cases, the Health Service Office can provide you with an itemized bill and help in obtaining reimbursement from your insurance company.
