Fletcher Thesis: Back from the Brink: How Alvaro Uribe brought security and economic revitalization to Colombia

Fletcher’s alumni community: I was impressed by the accessibility and helpfulness of Fletcher alumni from the outset of my interactions with the school. I remember receiving a phone call, just days after I was accepted into the program, from a New York alumnus to offer congratulations and a better glimpse as to why Fletcher is so special. After a few telephone conversations and a visit to campus, I began to get a clear picture of this very unique, close-knit community. After arriving at Fletcher, those  interactions went well beyond my initially high expectations in so many different areas, from the quality of my diverse classmates, to the opportunity to be involved in so many different groups and organizations, to having a chance to interact with powerful players on the world stage.

On Career Services: Fletcher was my number one choice for many reasons such as campus life, the alumni network, and the flexibility of the curriculum. But what I had not anticipated was the strength and usefulness of the Career Services and its Professional Development Program. About two weeks into my first semester at Fletcher, I received news that I had an on-campus interview with a top government agency for a summer internship position. I only had a week to prepare and I knew my resume and interviewing skills needed work. I had not anticipated having an interview so soon and I rushed to career services. In a matter of days, I not only had revised my resume but also received extensive guidance on my interviewing style through a "mock interview." I was videotaped and then critiqued, and I could not have asked for a more valuable or useful learning tool.
