Robbins, 2014, United States
Why I chose Fletcher: I chose Fletcher because of the Master of International Business (MIB) program, and because of Fletcher's Center for Emerging Market Enterprise. In particular, the Sovereign Wealth Fund Initiative is the only research program at a US university focusing on sovereign wealth funds. It all comes together because the MIB program is located at the intersection of international affairs and business. Most international affairs programs lack the business focus and rigor of the MIB program, and traditional MBA programs do not ask the larger, conceptual questions I want to investigate. Fletcher takes international business in emerging markets seriously. It's visible in the experience and ambitions of my classmates, it's visible in the curriculum, which integrates global challenges into business education, and it's visible in the faculty.
The Fletcher Community: The sense of community at Fletcher is great. Students really make an effort to contribute to the community and help one another. If I need a crash course in a specific topic, about a far away country, or a potential employer, I can send a message to an email list, and usually get offers to help within a few minutes. This applies to alumni too! Alumni are incredibly accessible and generous with their time and contributions to the Fletcher community. Such a strong sense of community allows for more productive classroom discussions, and more provocative campus-wide debates on current events.
