How I learned about Fletcher: My path to Fletcher was indirect. I was introduced to The Fletcher School when I attended a speaking event featuring a distinguished Fletcher alumnus. The school featured prominently in the bio of the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General, and my curiosity was piqued. Several years later I found myself in Virginia's Shenandoah valley working for a political campaign. A family had agreed to host me for the duration of the campaign and it turned out that my host dad was a Fletcher alumnus. When I began the grad school application process a few months later I called him up from Boston. He told me: "You have to visit Fletcher." I visited campus and met a current student who had been my colleague in DC. She said: "You have to come to Fletcher." Current students and alumni love Fletcher. The learning, the friendships and the culture at Fletcher are things you carry with you your whole life. That's why I came to Fletcher.

On the MALD: I chose the MALD program because it is flexible, but also balanced. The program allows me to focus on Development Economics and International Environment and Resource Policy, but also requires me to fulfill breadth requirements in fields such as law and history. I think that a mix of depth and breadth is essential in developing professional skills and that is why the MALD program was appealing to me.
