Fletcher's Master of Arts degree is a one-year program for mid-career professionals on sabbatical or leave of absence from government ministries, private international organizations and other institutions. The MA program allows mid-career individuals to gain new skills and knowledge while immersed in a diverse environment where the latest political, business and legal thinking is pursued. Students generally use their degrees to enhance the practical application of knowledge in their existing job or career field. While at Fletcher, MA students take eight courses and write a thesis. Fletcher’s Master of Arts students are thoroughly integrated into the life of the school, attending classes with students in the MALD, MIB, LLM and Ph.D. programs and participating in student organizations and clubs. Their experience is an important contribution to the intellectual life at Fletcher. MA program graduates are among Fletcher’s most distinguished alumni, serving as ambassadors, CEOs and high-level positions in international and non-governmental organizations. The flexibility of the MA program allows students to select courses that match their own functional and/or regional interests, thereby allowing them to design a program suited to their specific academic and professional goals. Fletcher students may also cross register at the graduate and professional schools at Tufts and Harvard Universities. Requirements for the MA can be fulfilled in residence or through the Global Master of Arts Program (GMAP)
which is a combined residency and Internet-mediated program.
