High Table Symposium

One of the central features of the LL.M. program is the “High Table” luncheon series, which is held throughout during the academic year. High Table is a luncheon discussion attended by LL.M. faculty and required for LL.M. students, based on presentations by practitioners from the public and private sectors and visiting legal scholars. Some of our recent guests are listed below.

Some of our High Table guests have also been invited to offer Fletcher-wide speeches under the auspices of the distinguished Charles Francis Adams Lecture Series.  These have included H.E. Hisashi Owada, then President of the International Court of Justice; Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohamed Elbaradei; and H.E. Joseph Deiss, President of the 65th Session of the U.N. General Assembly.

Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, former Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency spoke with LL.M. students on issues ranging from non-proliferation to global poverty. Read here for more on Dr. ElBaradei's visit.
Jay Stephens speaks with LL.M. students about the role of servicing the national defense requirements of over 80 countries around the world. Mr. Stephens is the General Counsel, Senior Vice President and Secretary of Raytheon Company.
Michael Zee speaks about the role of an international lawyer managing the global growth of internet giant Google. Mr. Zee is the Legal Director of Google in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Charles Cogan speaks with LL.M. student on January 27th, reflecting on his career as Regional Director with the United States Central Intelligence Agency. Dr. Cogan is an Associate at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Mr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo led the spring semester High Table with a dinner discussion on January 13th. The first Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Mr. Moreno-Ocampo discussed his role in prosecuting war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
The Hon. Robert Cordy speaks with LL.M. students at the December High Table. Justice Cordy has served on the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts since 2001.
Ambasador William Luers speaks with LL.M. students at High Table in November 2009. Ambassador Luers is the former President of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), and his distinguished career includes serving as President of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ambassador to Czechoslovakia and Venezuela, as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and for Inter-American Affairs.
