Mieke van der Wansem, MALD90, is the Associate Director of the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP) at The Fletcher School. The Center provides an educational and research program for Master’s and doctoral students in international relations. The Center raises funds to support student fellowships, internships, and research projects and to provide executive training and analysis to governments and other agencies.
At the Center, Mieke assists the Director in fund raising; develops educational and research proposals and projects; designs and implements training programs; develops fellowship and internship opportunities for graduate students as well as supervises graduate research assistants and employees; organizes and manages conferences and other Center events; and, develops and maintains the Center’s website, newsletter and on-line journal.
Mieke has over fifteen years experience as organizational and program leader and manager, trainer, facilitator, and researcher on environmental and natural resource policy issues in the U.S., Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining Fletcher, Mieke was a Director at the Consensus Building Institute where she co-managed the organization, designed and presented negotiation and collaborative problem solving training courses; conducted stakeholder assessments; and conducted research and writing. Before CBI, Mieke consulted for private and public organizations and, for six years, was an Associate at the World Resources Institute (an independent center for policy research and technical assistance on global environmental and development issues), specializing in participatory approaches to national environmental planning and policy analysis and environmental impact assessment.
