Professor Kelly Sims Gallagher is seeking 1-3 master's degree students to serve as research assistants for a new project entitled Cooperate or Compete (CoC): Innovation Strategy in the United States and China. This project is a multi-year study aimed at understanding the innovation capabilities of China and the United States, and identifying areas for cooperation vs. competition. We have Chinese partners at Tsinghua University who will take the lead on the Chinese side of the story, so the research assistants will primarily help with understanding the United States. Prior knowledge and coursework on innovation (e.g. Gallagher, Chakravorti, or Juma classes) would be extremely helpful. Prior experience working in an innovative industry also helpful. To clarify, this project is not particularly focused on environmental issues, although the energy sector will be one of the sectors studied. Prior background in science, technology, or engineering would also be helpful.
Students will begin by doing literature reviews, development of an annotated bibliography, and helping to identify sectors that will be priorities in the project. The workload is anticipated to be 5-10 hours per week for the academic year.
Interested candidates should email Miranda.Fasulo@tufts.edu by 9:00am Monday, September 23, with the following information:
- Brief statement of interest in the position highlighting relevant background and skills (no more than 300 words, please send in the body of an email)
- Writing sample (no more than 1 page single-spaced – an excerpt from a longer document is fine)
Any questions may be directed to Miranda. Applications from Fletcher students will be given priority, but all Tufts graduate students are welcome to apply.
The pay rate for the position is:
$15/hr for second-year graduate students
$12/hr for first-year graduate students
Work-study is always a plus.
