The Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP) is seeking 2 interns to collaborate with the Ocean River Institute (ORI), a nonprofit organization in Cambridge dedicated to helping individuals and grassroots groups make a difference where they live and work through environmental stewardship, education, and citizen science, on research and advocacy related to:
- (1) Bringing Massachusetts state standards for nitrogen in lawn fertilizer to the right level. The goal is to create a successful strategy and campaign for Massachusetts, and then apply it to Maine, NH, CT, RI, etc. following research into these states' laws. The intern would work with closely with ORI's President and Executive Director Rob Moir and meet with Beacon Hill senators.
- (2) Helping with the reauthorizing of the Magneson-Stevenson legislation related to marine fisheries management. This work would entail coming up with an education campaign illustrating and effectively communicating why this legislation is good for fish and for fishermen.
Either or both interns may also be asked to contribute to a climate change wiki site providing information on actions being taken to respond to climate change by the state and by individual districts.
The workload is anticipated at about 10 hours/week for each position.

The pay rate for the position is:
$15/hr for second-year graduate students
$12/hr for first-year graduate students
Work-study is always a plus. Note that this is a collaboration between ORI and CIERP and students will be paid through Tufts as student employees.
