Ari Axelrod is Corporate Research Fellow at the Institute for Business in the Global Context. An experienced professional with a track record of creating value through innovative financial, business, and corporate strategies, he is an expert in financial planning, capital management and optimization, regulations, valuation, value management, and incentives.
In his recent role as Head of Financial Planning and Analysis with Lehman Brothers, Ari was responsible for the Firm's short- and long-term financial planning, capital management strategy (including capital adequacy and capital allocation), dividend policy, and the stock buyback program. Working in close cooperation with the firm’s Treasurer, Chief Risk Officer, Head of Investor relations, Head of Strategy, and the CFO, Ari and his team substantially increased utilization of innovative Hybrid Equity instruments, implemented cost-effective structured buyback programs, and developed and implemented a new Capital Adequacy and Capital Allocation methodology, which was approved by the SEC, the rating agencies, and the Board.
Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Ari was a Principal with the Boston Consulting Group. As a senior member of the Corporate Finance and Strategy practice, he led over twenty assignments across industries and geographies. These included: developing an integrated financial strategy for one of the largest U.S. metals/diversified industrial companies; establishing an acquisition target screening methodology for a global pharmaceutical company; and creating a focused portfolio reshaping strategy for a leading Australian bank. To implement the developed strategies, Ari led or participated in several large-scale operational improvement/integration engagements, such as an overhead cost reduction project for a U.S. division of a global pharma/chemical company and an outsourcing strategy for two major German and U.S. power Ari holds an MBA degree with distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was awarded the Loeb fellowship for excellence in Finance, and a Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Institute of Mechanics and Optics and The National Research Center for Power Generation, both in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Registered Professional Engineer.
