Most of the articles published by Al Nakhlah are not solicited directly by the editors, but selected through an open call for submissions from currently enrolled graduate students at The Fletcher School and other institutions. Submissions are accepted twice during the year for the fall/winter and spring/summer editions. Articles may cover a wide range of topics and sub-regions related to Southwest Asia and Islamic Civilizations. We encourage cross-cutting articles covering subjects such as business, finance and law, as well as book reviews and interviews from relevant leaders and experts. Articles may be picked up by other publications and authors have been asked to write additional pieces.
We accept in-depth articles, policy-oriented papers, book reviews and interviews. In-depth, academic articles range from 8-20 pages and should be meticulously cited according to the Chicago Manual of Style. Shorter, policy-oriented papers range from 5-8 pages and should have a narrow focus using concrete examples to offer recommendations about contemporary policies. Book reviews should offer well-researched critiques of recently released books dealing with the region.
Submission Review Process
Each article submitted to Al Nakhlah is reviewed by the editorial board, all of whom are graduate students enrolled at The Fletcher School. Articles are judged based on relevance, quality of research, originality and prose. The editors-in-chief, in consultation with the editorial board, hold final authority for inviting authors to publish with the journal. The editorial board assumes no obligation regarding final publication.
All contributions must be submitted electronically via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to receiving your submission!
